Hanley Town 6-0 Bewdley Town: Match Report

By Will Bailey

Hanley Town impressed in a convincing 6-0 victory on Saturday against Bewdley Town to extend their lead at the top of the Midland Premier League.

In a slow start where chances were few and far between it took until the 44th minute for Hanley to break the deadlock.

Kyle Stubbs long throw was flicked across goal by Ryan Shotton and Jayden Cotterill was on hand to head home the first of the afternoon.

In the second half Hanley turned on the style and in the 66th minute it was two. Charlie Walford clipped a ball over the top and Winger Jake Avery was on hand to supply the finish.

Just 11 minutes later and Hanley had their third. Jake Twyford did well on the edge of the box to fashion a chance that rebounded off the post, but substitute Theo Stair was there to fire in his first since re-joining the club.

In the 79th minute it was four. Louis Dodds threaded a defence splitting pass through to Josh Green who unselfishly squared for Walford to blast into the empty net.

Not long after Walford had his second and Hanley’s fifth of the game and it was the pick of the bunch. Patient play on the edge eventually found Walford 25 yards out who curled an effort into the top left corner.

Right before the full-time whistle Hanley had their sixth of the game. Green again found himself on the right to clip a lovely ball across for substitute Aaron Cole to glance a header into the back of the net.

Hanley next face Romulus this Saturday (15th January 2021) at the Payaro Stadium.`
