Sat (7th): First Team defeated at Barnoldswick Town. No game for the Reserves. Congratulations to the Staffs County League side.

Our First-Team fell to another defeat yesterday, this time away at Barnoldwick Town. The game ended 3-1 to the home side, with James Melhado putting Hanley in the lead in the 28th minute. Despite going in 1-0 up at half-time, the second-half was a different story, and Barnoldswick breezed past Hanley, scoring three in close proximity.

Our poor run of form continues, and we now have a huge 2 months ahead of us if we are to survive relegation. Our remaining 9 games sees us play 7 of these at home. If we are to avoid finishing bottom, you get the feeling it’s still very much in our hands. Many of those home games are certainly winnable, including against teams just above us. Also all this ignores the fact that we can still survive and finish bottom, should our points per game be ranked 1st or 2nd out of the 14 Step 5 leagues come the end of the season (see image below). As it stands we meet this, however it’s vital to keep picking up points – every point really does count this season! However of course we still wish to finish as high as possible in the league table as we can. Our next game is against Squires Gate at home, next Saturday. Kick-off is at the normal time of 15:00.

With our Reserves out of action yesterday, many regular home supporters were treated to the Quarter-Final of the FA Inter-League Cup between the Staffs County Senior League and the West Yorkshire League, played at Potteries Park. In what was an entertaining game, we offer our congratulations to the Staffordshire team, who came out 3-2 winners.

Our Reserves are next in action on Wednesday night, making the short trip to Abbey Hulton Utd, to face their Reserve side. Kick-off in this at 19:30.

As of the end of February 2020. Taken from NWCFL
