Weather-permitting, the Town are set to host Irlam Tuesday night, seeking maximum points as we look to move away from the sole relegation spot. We are currently just 3pts ahead of bottom side Litherland Remyca. A good performance at Runcorn Town on Wednesday night (1-1 draw) now needs to be followed with a win (our last win was Boxing Day). Kick-off at Potteries Park is at 19:45. Your support would be appreciated!

A 33rd-minute penalty was enough to earn Irlam 3pts on Saturday against our First Team. This, despite Hanley dominating the game for most of the second half (first-half being even), and doing everything but score**. It was one of those games where we should have won the game really, never mind draw or lose it. However, it means our poor run continues and with Hanley now well and truly in a relegation battle ( 2pts from bottom position following other results yesterday, though we do have 2 games in hand on those around us).
** In the 77th minute Hanley looked to have equalised when an effort bounced down from the bar, into the goal in a diagonal motion, and then back out again. It didn’t appear to be one of those close calls and many agreed it was a goal. The assistant referee wasn’t really in the best position to see as he was level with the last defender on the edge of the 18yrd box.
It was a better afternoon for our Reserves who continued their good run of form by beating Abbey Hulton Utd Reserves at Potteries Park. Walsh and Sambrook the goalscorers. That’s now 3 wins on the bounce for the Reserves who move up to 8th position, and still with games in hand on most teams (as many as 7).
Following Irlams progression in their county cup, our scheduled Home game against them on Tuesday 4th February has been moved to Tuesday 18th February. We will now face Bootle on the 4th at Home instead.
Hanley Town would firstly like to welcome Ethan Hartshorn to the club. Ethan has joined from Crewe Alexandra on a loan deal. The club would like to thank Crewe for allowing this to happen. Ethan featured during our 1-0 defeat to Charnock Richard on Saturday, putting in a good performance and he limited Charnocks star-man Grimshaw to few efforts during the game.
Another player who joined the club this week was Goalkeeper Dominic Kurasik from Kidsgrove Athletic, also on a loan deal. Again the club would like to thank Kidsgrove for allowing this to happen. Dominic also featured during Saturday’s game and put in an impressive performance.
And finally, welcome Mitchell Glover who signed for the club during the week and was a substitute during Saturday’s game.
