2019/2020 SEASON OVER – All results have been expunged.

On Thursday, the FA announced that due to the ongoing Coranavirus pandemic, the current season will be made null and void and all results expunged. This applies to both our First Team and Reserve Team. It means there will be no promotions or relegation’s for the season and that the proposed non-league restructure for next season will now be deferred until the 2021/2022 season.

This means our First-Team are likely now to play in the North West Counties Premier Division next season (whenever that may be), something we were not expecting to happen – whether through a lateral movement to an equivalent league or by relegation to the NWCFL First Division South. For those who’ve asked and are wondering, despite the season abruptly ending with Hanley bottom (and liable for relegation), we would in fact have stayed up, had the other preferred method of ending the season using points per game (PPG) been applied by the FA.

The FA released statement can be found here.

The North West Counties released statement regarding the above can be found here.

Despite the season ending abruptly, we have archived the results, appearances, goals and other statistics as they were. See the ‘Archive’ tab.

Who knows when the next season will start, but in the meantime stay safe and look after yourselves and we’ll hopefully see you again in the near future.

Both FIRST TEAM & RESERVE TEAM fixtures suspended until further notice.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus threat, both our First Team and Reserve Team fixtures have been suspended until further notice by the NWCFL and SCSL respectively. This is because of the government changing it’s advice to everyone from today.

What will happen going forward is anyone’s guess at the present time (the FA will have some big decisions to make), but in the meantime, stay safe and we’ll look forward to seeing you in better circumstances in the near future hopefully.

Sat (14th): First Team defeated at Home by Squires Gate. Reserves not in action.

It was another defeat for our First-Team on Saturday. Despite leading 1-0 at half-time we were comfortably beaten second-half by the visitors, the game ending 1-3. Dan Needham grabbing Hanley’s goal.

This might sound very familiar, as the game was near identical to last weeks defeat at Barnoldswick – leading 1-0 at half time, playing well, and then falling apart in the second-half, with that game also ending 3-1 to the opposition.

If the season is to carry on (is doubtful at the moment, at least in the short-term, with the Coranavirus), there is a lot of hard work to do, if we are to avoid the bottom spot in the league. Our next scheduled league game is against Winsford Utd, next Saturday at home, though of course this could change given the current situation.

Our Reserves meanwhile, were not in action, with their game at Wolstanton Utd postponed. They’re scheduled to be next in action on Wednesday, at home, though of course this could also change given the current situation.

Updates to be posted on here, and on our social media pages.

Sat (7th): First Team defeated at Barnoldswick Town. No game for the Reserves. Congratulations to the Staffs County League side.

Our First-Team fell to another defeat yesterday, this time away at Barnoldwick Town. The game ended 3-1 to the home side, with James Melhado putting Hanley in the lead in the 28th minute. Despite going in 1-0 up at half-time, the second-half was a different story, and Barnoldswick breezed past Hanley, scoring three in close proximity.

Our poor run of form continues, and we now have a huge 2 months ahead of us if we are to survive relegation. Our remaining 9 games sees us play 7 of these at home. If we are to avoid finishing bottom, you get the feeling it’s still very much in our hands. Many of those home games are certainly winnable, including against teams just above us. Also all this ignores the fact that we can still survive and finish bottom, should our points per game be ranked 1st or 2nd out of the 14 Step 5 leagues come the end of the season (see image below). As it stands we meet this, however it’s vital to keep picking up points – every point really does count this season! However of course we still wish to finish as high as possible in the league table as we can. Our next game is against Squires Gate at home, next Saturday. Kick-off is at the normal time of 15:00.

With our Reserves out of action yesterday, many regular home supporters were treated to the Quarter-Final of the FA Inter-League Cup between the Staffs County Senior League and the West Yorkshire League, played at Potteries Park. In what was an entertaining game, we offer our congratulations to the Staffordshire team, who came out 3-2 winners.

Our Reserves are next in action on Wednesday night, making the short trip to Abbey Hulton Utd, to face their Reserve side. Kick-off in this at 19:30.

As of the end of February 2020. Taken from NWCFL

Last Person Standing: Round 2

Following last weeks wipe-out (64/68 eliminated), the remaining 4 players have made their selections for the week.

Liverpool who host Bournemouth on Saturday, are the popular choice, with 3 players backing them, but as we saw last week, the Premier League is often highly unpredictable. Surely they won’t fail to win again! Leicester, the other team selected, face Aston Villa at home on Monday night.

Good luck to all.
