Hereford Lads Club 1-5 Hanley Town: Match Report

Chris Dagnall scored a brace to help Hanley Town through to the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup.

Despite having early chance Hanley fell a goal behind inside 10 minutes when the Hereford striker found space on the edge of the box to unleash a strike past Ben Chapman to put the home side ahead.

This didn’t disrupt Hanley’s flow and many chances came the way of Hanley, notably new signing Daniel Glover forced the Hereford keeper into a fine stop to keep the home side ahead.

Despite this Hanley did get a deserved equaliser through Dagnall. Some neat play saw Dagnall get the ball and after dribbling through 4 players unleashed a strike into the back of the net.

The second half saw Hanley dominate again and it wasn’t long until they were ahead. Glover did some fine work on the left side to square the ball for last seasons top scorer Reece Jones the slide home the finish to put Hanley ahead.

Chances kept coming for Hanley and soon it was 3. A cross from the right side was only half cleared which allowed Jake Twyford to scissor kick home Hanley’s third from just inside the area.

Substitute Jake Avery came on in the 71st minute and by minute 74 he had his first of the season. Great link up play between Glover and Skipper Louis Dodds saw the ball threaded through to Avery who was ruthless with his finish through the keepers legs for Hanley’s fourth of the game.

Dagnall wrapped the game up in the 87th minute when Jayden Cotterill found space on the right side to cross deep for the ball to then be played back to Dagnall who fired home his second and Hanley’s fifth of the game.

Hanley will face Hinckley LRFC in the next round on the 20th of August.
