Bury AFC 1-2 Hanley Town Match Report

Carl Dickinson scored his first goal since he joined Hanley Town as they came from behind to defeat Bury AFC on Tuesday night.

Dickinson emphatically converted a penalty to give Town the lead on 51 minutes, after Lucas Green-Birch raced through on goal but was brought down in the area.

Hanley did not get off to the best of starts as the hosts opened the scoring after just six minutes through tricky forward Abs Obasotto.

Late first half pressure soon told, though, as Chris Dagnall headed Hanley on level terms on the brink of half-time from Josh Green’s clever delivery.

Despite going a goal down early Hanley still created good chances, a nice move cut open their defence, but Eric Graves had his effort cleared off the line.

Player-manager Dickinson also had a 30-yard free kick tipped over the bar by home ‘keeper Jack Atkinson in the 20th minute.

Just moments before his equaliser, Dagnall smacked a left-footed strike off the far post following a swift counterattack starting from Ben Chapman in goal.

Dagnall had another close effort well saved in the 80th minute, after good work on the left-hand side by Ryan Campbell-Gordon.

Dickinson told the Club’s media after the game that he was delighted with the team’s performance, as they showed character to come from behind.

He said: “It was another good performance from the lads. It took us a while to get into the game but after the first 20 minutes I thought we were brilliant.

“Our tempo, the way we closed down, some of the football we played was very good and second half was exactly the same. I thought we were worthy winners.”

Hanley are next in action on Saturday as they make the short trip to face Market Drayton Town in their penultimate pre-season game.
